Salary range: A reasonable range for this position is:
credit-bearing courses: $1,500 to $5,000 per section
non-credit: 10-30% of enrollment fee per enrollment
Anticipated start: January 2026
Position duration: Intermittent: Beginning January 2026 through December 2026

Position description

UC Merced Professional & Continuing Education is seeking experienced and qualified candidates to provide instruction in closely related fields of Engineering & Sustainability. Courses may be offered in academic credit and non-credit options.

• Introduction to Industrial Additive Manufacturing
• Introduction to Solar Analysis & Due Diligence

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers.

UC Merced Professional & Continuing Education anticipates hiring multiple part-time instructors for the courses listed above throughout the year based on the course sections scheduled and/or planned.

Part-Time UNEX Instructors are hired on an as need basis with a start date within one year from this job posting. Hired instructors may remain eligible to teach for up to 5 years on an intermittent basis.

UC Merced Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) offers access to the university's academic courses through Open University and provides professional courses in a variety of industry fields (education, business, technology, renewable energy, healthcare, etc.). UC Merced PACE partners with regional community initiatives and organizations to boost economic and social development with a focus on delivering courses in convenient and flexible formats, including fully online, hybrid, in-person, and custom modalities.

UC Merced PACE offers workforce-responsive, non-degree credentials and credential pathways that provide opportunities to upskill and re-skill. We can develop and deliver skills-based, alternative credential programs that align with employer needs and high demand jobs. Alternative credentials are non-degree, professional credit, certificate, stackable, micro-credentials, bootcamps, etc.

UC Merced PACE is growing exponentially including new certificates, courses, and other forms of microcredentials. In the last two years, the division has introduced over 60 new courses and 5 new programs.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, and Sustainable Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the closely related field or publish research in the closely related field
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge in the designated topic area
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience teaching or providing professional development in the closely related field
