Position title: Education Pathways: Part-Time UNEX Instructor
Salary range: A reasonable salary range for this position is $1,000 to $3,500 per course. The budgeted salary for this position is $2,250 for each 2.0 unit course. Additional compensation may be provided for course development.
Anticipated start: Fall Term: August 1, 2024
Spring Term: January 1, 2025
Summer Term: June 1, 2025

Summer Term: 6/1/2025 – 7/31/2025
Position duration: All UNEX Part-Time Instructors are issued a 5-year Instructional Service Agreement (ISAs). ISAs allow instructors to remain active and eligible for future course contracts within that duration.

Position description

UC Merced Extension is seeking experienced and qualified candidates to provide instruction in closely related fields of California Government and Policy. Courses may be offered in academic credit and non-credit options.

Examples of Closely Related Fields:

  • California State Government Overview
  • California’s Executive Branch
  • Lobbying in California
  • California Rulemaking Process
  • California Budget Process
  • California Political and Elections Laws
  • Direct Democracy in California
  • California Legislature and Legislative Process
  • California Legislative Drafting and Statutory Interpretation

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating/updating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers.

Fall Term: 8/1/2024 – 12/31/2024
Spring Term: 1/1/2025 – 5/31/2025
Summer Term: 6/1/2025 – 7/31/2025

UC Merced Extension anticipates hiring multiple part-time instructors for the courses listed above throughout the academic year based on the course sections scheduled and/or planned.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

As a UNEX Instructor in Government and Policy, you will bring:

  • a master's degree in related field as designated topic area
  • minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the closely related field or publish - research in the closely related field
  • demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge in the designated topic area
Preferred qualifications
  • experience teaching or providing professional development in the closely related field
  • direct experience in California Government and Policy capacity
