Position description
The postdoctoral scholar will investigate comparative population genomic analyses of multiple coastal marine species with the goal of understanding the historical dynamics, interrelationships, and sources of geographic structure within and among species and the communities of which they are a part. The focal system is kelp forests, but extends to other coastal communities. We wish to understand associations between species, similar and dissimilar drivers, and the implications of the modern distribution of genomic variation for conservation in a changing seascape. The principal duties are:
- data analyses, bioinformatics
- lead- and co-author manuscripts, oral, and poster presentations
- project management
- help educate, supervise, and train graduate and undergraduate students
- assist in preparation of grant proposals and reports
- fieldwork (logistics, sampling, notes; deploy/retrieve/manage dataloggers)
- molecular labwork (whole genome sequencing, UCEs, RNAseq/DGE, epigenetics, eDNA)
- sample and data verification and curation
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant area
- Proven record of high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Knowledge of and experience with bioinformatic pipelines to analyze population genomic data
- Ability to manage large datasets
- Demonstrated ability to work as both a team leader and team member
- Advanced communication skills (esp. writing)
- For fieldwork, scientific diving experience would be a plus but is not essential.
