Position description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Merced invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Teaching Professor level in the field of Civil Engineering. Areas of focus include (but are not limited to) structures, construction management, facilities management, geotechnical engineering, geomatics, and/or sustainable and resilient infrastructure. The position will contribute to enhancing undergraduate program curricula related to sustainable structures and civil engineering. Competitive candidates will have a strong record of, or demonstrated potential for (e.g., teaching assistant roles), teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to improve pedagogy and course delivery. Candidates should possess a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a related area at the time of appointment, which will be effective July 2024.

• B.S. in Civil Engineering
• Experience teaching Civil Engineering courses at the undergraduate level
• Experience developing new undergraduate courses
• Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students
• Record of interdisciplinary work and collaboration
• Commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring practices
• Professional Engineering License in Civil Engineering (or related area) {preferred but not required}
• Record of interdisciplinary work and collaboration
