Salary range: The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Table. The salary range for this position is $99,100-$215,800. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position description

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UC Merced invites applications for a qualified Assistant Teaching Professor to coordinate and teach undergraduate courses in computer science and engineering. We seek candidates who have demonstrated that they are promising educators and who are interested in a teaching-focused career.

The job title is also known as Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (LPSOE). This series parallels that of the research-focused series but with emphasis upon excellence in teaching and other instruction-related activities. Individuals in
this position are expected to provide outstanding teaching; maintain an active program of pedagogical and/or disciplinary scholarship; and perform service related to the pedagogical mission of the department and the university. This appointment
confers membership in the academic senate, and, contingent upon promotion, tenure-paralleling security of employment.

We are particularly interested in attracting academically and culturally diverse candidates, especially those who have engaged in activities or efforts to educate a broad and diverse group of students, and have worked to increase the participation and success of students from groups underrepresented in computer science.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

A doctoral degree in computer science or a related field is required at time of employment.

Preferred qualifications

(1) have teaching experience or evidence of the ability to teach, particularly using student focused or student success centered approaches.
(2) be enthusiastic about working with UC Merced's diverse student body.
(3) have experience with open source tools and development environments both in Linux and Windows.
(4) show involvement in developing effective and innovative teaching media and infrastructure.
