UC Merced is also building the Downtown Campus Center, a $33 million, three-story administrative building in the heart of Merced.

The Water Systems Management Laboratory at UC Merced directed by Dr. Josué Medellín-Azuara, is looking for a self-motivated and qualified junior specialist in applied agriculture and environmental engineering, to be engaged in projects related to economics on crop water use, remote sensing, and carbon estimations in perennial crops.

The candidate is expected to use his/her professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to our lab. The main goals include performing economic analysis for water use and productivity in cotton, designing and executing experiments using drones and sensors for aerial imagery collection, and modeling carbon biomass and field spatial distribution in winegrape systems.
ArcGIS, image processing skills and previous experience on drone operations are necessary for the project. The candidate is expected to perform field work in agricultural and natural lands for data collection, carry out research independently, implement and develop research ideas, train and supervise the students in the group, and prepare reports and/or articles on the research progress.

Qualifications: Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent scientific research with leadership skills and strong written and verbal communication skills are encouraged to apply. Experience working in California’s agricultural systems and wildlands showing proven knowledge of data collection, experimental design, and communication skills with growers are required. Applicants must have obtained a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering or a related field. A MSc or PhD in Environmental engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related area is preferred.
