UC Merced has also built the Downtown Campus Center, a $33 million, three-story administrative building in the heart of Merced.

The NASA-MACES (Merced Nanomaterials Center for Energy and Sensing) Center is seeking an individual with an extensive administrative and programmatic background in a high-performance research and educational center. The individual who acts as a Center manager, works with the Director & Associate Directors to implement the Center’s activities, including developing long-term educational plans, organizing conferences, administering all finance, human resources, facilities and other operational related activities. As the needs of the Center are evolving and requirements imposed by the sponsor agency, NASA, may change over time, the Manager will need to refine existing policy/procedures or propose/implement new ones. This requires that the Manager work collaboratively with the Center Director and demonstrate fairness, diplomacy and keen problem-solving abilities. In addition to the administrative functions listed above, the Manager, will also perform program design, education and outreach, program evaluation and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in engineering, science, or related field and/or equivalent experience and training.
• Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organization skills and well-developed oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups to achieve results.
• Competence in large event planning and coordination and facilitation of substantive research through administrative means.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Three years of experience with a research institute, academic institution, national laboratory or commercial organization working within a scientific research setting, preferably funded by federal agencies.
• Prior fundraising experience.
• Experience in coordinating and managing multiple projects.
• Ability to maintain focus and work with a team to meet deadlines.
• Ability to anticipate and initiate action to promote efficient completion of task and achieve project/program goals.

The specific level of the position will be dependent upon the experience and background of the selected candidate. The salary range may be $60,304- $94,270 based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales for this series.
