In Fall 2016, UC Merced broke ground on a $1.3 billion public-private partnership that is unprecedented in higher education. UC Merced is also building the Downtown Campus Center, a $33 million, three-story administrative building in the heart of Merced.

The CalTeach program (http://calteach.ucmerced.edu) housed at the School of Natural Sciences prepares undergraduate science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors for careers in K-12 education. The program offers undergraduate curriculum in STEM education and opportunities for students to complete a teaching credential either concurrently with a B.S. in STEM or post-graduation. CalTeach is an innovative, dynamic program currently expanding to include professional development opportunities for in-service teachers and extend collaborations with local K-12 institutions.

The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in AY 2018-2019:

Classroom Management and Interactions
Diversity in Education
Project-based Instruction
Technology in Education
Apprentice Teaching

These pedagogy courses include general education topics combined with a focus on teaching STEM disciplines. The candidate will have opportunities to engage in program building efforts and have an extensive impact on the growth and development of the CalTeach program.

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, and holding regular posted office hours each week.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Advanced degree in STEM, education or related fields is required. Candidates with experience teaching STEM at the K-12 and the college/university level are preferred.

Salary is based on an annual full-time salary of $53,402.00 and commensurate with experience.
