The School of Natural Sciences at UC Merced (http://naturalsciences.ucmerced.edu) invites applications for one new faculty position in Theoretical Soft Condensed Matter/ Biophysics starting July 1, 2018 at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. We are seeking exceptionally qualified candidates with expertise in areas including, but not limited to, (i) theoretical and computational studies of soft matter systems, including active and adaptive matter, novel polymeric and liquid crystalline materials, mechanical and origami metamaterials, complex fluids, granular materials, biomaterials and biopolymers, biomimetic materials and/or (ii) theoretical and computational studies of fundamental biophysical processes and systems from the scale of molecules to organisms and populations, including the dynamics of single biomolecules, motor proteins and intracellular transport, cellular organization and dynamics, cytoskeletal mechanics/dynamics, morphogenesis and tissue mechanics, bacterial physics, behavior and evolution. Special consideration will be given to applicants who participate in interdisciplinary research, and who will complement our existing Physics faculty (http://physics.ucmerced.edu).
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related scientific field, demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and strong interpersonal communication skills are required. Postdoctoral research experience (or equivalent) is typically expected and strongly preferred.
