Position description

The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.

The laboratory of Rudy M. Ortiz, PhD, seeks a highly motivated post-doctoral scholar with diverse research skills to help lead a nutritional study with human subjects to assess the effects of almonds on glucose and lipid metabolism. Ideally the candidate brings experience working with humans, and strong, positive attitude in team science.

Qualifications include: 1) completion of PhD (conferred) no later than end of spring academic term 2016, 2) strong knowledge of biostatistics, 3) working knowledge of metabolomics and glucoregulatory pathways, and 4) ability to start July 1, 2016.

Additional qualifications are: 1) experience working w/ human subjects, 2) experience collecting and analyzing dietary data, 3) ability to work with undergraduate and graduate students from diverse background, 4) critical thinking skills.

Preferred qualifications include: 1) ability to use HPLC, 2) experience working with isotopes, and 3) background in physiology or nutrition.

Salary is based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales.
