Position description
A lab technician/manager position is available in the lab of Professor Michael Dawson. This position is to support comparative population genomic analyses of multiple coastal marine species with the goal of describing the historical dynamics (e.g. demography) and current sources of geographic structure within and among species and the communities of which they are a part. The lab wishes to understand associations between organisms, drivers of ecological dynamics, and the implications of the modern distributions of genomic variation for conservation in a changing seascape. The principal duties are:
-coordinating and scheduling fieldwork and meetings
-specimen collection, cataloguing, curation, and databasing
-DNA/RNA purification, quantification
-sequencing library preparation
-sequencing and data curation
-participation in lab and project management and meetings
Other potential activities include:
-assist in preparation of reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals
-co-author oral and poster presentations
-supervise and train undergraduate students
-other tasks as required to accomplish the preceding duties.
Qualifications
-B.S. in a relevant area
-Knowledge of and experience with wetlab techniques for DNA analyses and sequencing
-Ability to effectively manage tasks, things, and time
-Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
-Well-developed communication skills (esp. verbal, also writing)
-M.S. in a relevant area.
