Position description

The School of Engineering anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following courses in Computer Science & Engineering for Academic Year 2023-2024:

• CSE 005 Introduction to Computer Applications
• CSE 015 Discrete Mathematics
• CSE 019 Introduction to Computing
• CSE 022 Introduction to Programming
• CSE 024 Advanced Programming
• CSE 030 Data Structures
• CSE 100 Algorithm Design and Analysis
• CSE 106 Exploratory Computing
• CSE 108 Full Stack Web Development
• CSE 140 Computer Architecture
• CSE 150 Operating Systems
• CSE 165 Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming
• CSE 170 Computer Graphics
• CSE 171 Game Programming

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (minimum 2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant or reader.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Appointments for AY 2023/2024 and/or Fall 2023 semester are reviewed beginning in April, and for Spring 2024 semester are reviewed beginning in October. The posting will remain open through February 2024 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Advanced degree in Computer Science & Engineering or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching that demonstrates broad experience working with students of different abilities, ethnic backgrounds, and educational attainment.
