Position title: Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $64,329. See Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range for this position. These are academic year appointments and subject to the normal processes of academic review. Salary is prorated in accordance instructional workload calculation.
Anticipated start: 7/1/2023
Position duration: Duration through Academic Year 2023-24

Position description

Applicants internal to the UCM Department of Environmental Systems Science who had an appointment in 2022-2023 and apply by the “Initial Review Date” of 3/1/2023 will be considered prior to all other applicants.

The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in AY 2023-2024:

Introduction to Earth Systems Science
Sustainability Science
Ecosystems of California
Weather, Climate and Environment
Ecology
Other courses as needed

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, and holding regular posted office hours each week.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Advanced degree in Environmental Systems Sciences or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required.

See Table 15for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329-$181,015 per year.

Appointments for AY 2023/2024 and/or Fall 2023 semester are reviewed in April, and for Spring 2024 semester are reviewed in October. The posting will remain open through February 2024 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.

Advanced degree in Environmental Systems Sciences or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required.
