Position description

The Isborn lab at UC Merced is looking for a Computational Chemist. This position requires creative contributions to and collaborative development of an active research program investigating topics relevant to the simulation of electronic excited states and optical spectroscopy, with applications to condensed phase photochemistry, polariton chemistry, and electro-optic materials. The candidate will help to determine research goals in consultation with the Principal Investigator. The candidate will design specific projects, including the selection of appropriate methods and techniques. In some cases, the candidate may supervise students regarding the technical aspects of the research, including methods development, code installation and compilation, trouble-shooting problems, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments. The candidate will publish research results in peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with the PI and other members of the research team.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Ph.D. in computational chemistry or related field, experience with both electronic structure, molecular dynamics, and optical spectroscopy calculations. Good written and oral communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

Experience compiling code on various GPU HPC platforms, experience analyzing how a molecular environment affects excited state properties, experience parametrizing atomistic force fields from electronic structure parameters and analyzing molecular dynamics trajectories, experience mentoring students.
