Salary range: Salary is based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales.
Percent time: 100%
Anticipated start: Starting dates are negotiable
Position duration: This is a full-time, one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based on availability of funding, ongoing operational needs and satisfactory performance.

Position description

The Water and Energy Technology Laboratory is looking for a qualified postdoctoral researcher that is self-motivated, creative and enthusiastic to work on modeling and simulations for metallic additive manufacturing. The duties of the postdoc will include i) developing numerical algorithms and simulation code to simulate metallic additive manufacturing process; ii) conducting numerical simulations to enhance understanding of multiscale multi-physics process in additive manufacturing; iii) writing papers describing the results of the evaluations and investigations, and iv) assisting with the oversight of graduate and undergraduate assistants working on these projects.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

A PhD degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required. Applicants must have background in modeling and numerical simulations for manufacturing process or computational solid mechanics. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Preferred qualifications

Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent scientific research successfully are desirable. Preference will be given to those applicants with strong backgrounds in additive manufacturing, cold spray, laser material interactions, or metallurgy. Previous experience in thermal expansion, machine learning or meshfree numerical methods is a plus.
