Position description

A postdoctoral researcher position in the area of biophysical chemistry or biomaterials is available in the group of Prof. Tao Ye at UC Merced. The successful candidate will use and develop single molecule biophysical techniques to study how DNA nanostructures self-assemble at solid-interfaces. Moreover, the candidate will extend a novel approach that encodes information onto a solid surface to steer the 2D self-assembly of multiscale DNA structures. The project also involves close collaboration with researchers at Duke University and Emory University, who have expertise in DNA nanotechnology and multiscale modeling. The postdoctoral researcher will develop and implement research ideas, communicate and coordinate with collaborators, write manuscripts, present results at conferences/workshops, and help mentor graduate students. The initial appointment period is one year, with the opportunity for renewal upon satisfactory performance.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in physical/biophysical chemistry, biophysics, biomaterials, or related fields.

Additional qualifications

The successful candidate should have training in one or more of the following areas: 1) in situ scanning probe microscopy, 2) biointerfaces, 3) fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy, 4) biochemical manipulation of nucleic acids.

Preferred qualifications

The candidate is expected to have good writing skills and the ability to communicate with coworkers and collaborators effectively.
