Position description

We are a laboratory of neuroepigenetics; we study mechanisms and effects of neuronal gene transcription in brain development and function. We use a combination of advanced molecular biology techniques, mammalian genetics, and deep sequencing technologies to obtain a genome-wide view of transcription in vitro and in vivo. Our aim is to provide mechanistic insight on epigenetic regulatory mechanisms underlying gene-environment interactions in the context of neurodevelopmental disorders.

A Post-Doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Ramendra Saha. The position is funded by an NIH R01 grant and involves studying epigenetic mechanisms of neurodevelopment-related gene transcription during developmental exposure to environmental toxins. This project will focus on ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes and their roles in brain development.

The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for:

Conceptualization – In consultation with the PI, the fellow will be expected to take a lead role in the design of experiments and methods.

Research execution – Independently perform experiments using techniques, including, cell culture of primary neurons, in utero electroporation, animal behavior, molecular biology techniques such as ChIP, and next generation sequencing. Experience in every technique is not expected; however, it is desirable that the candidate has proven expertise in one or more of the above mentioned techniques.

Data Analysis and reporting – Analyzing research data and transforming the results into presentable formats. The candidate is expected to meet the PI routinely to discuss progress, problems and trouble shooting.

Research presentation and publication – Preparation of text and figures for publications in peer-reviewed journals, or presentation at conferences.

Mentor other project members (graduate and/or undergraduate students).

Minimum Qualifications includes a PhD in molecular or cellular biology, physiology, toxicology, neurobiology, or, a related field; and proven writing skills, particularly with respect to report writing and editing.

Preferred Qualifications include commitment and ability to work independently as well as in foster collaborations within the team; and strong research record as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Interested applications are required to submit a 1) Cover Letter 2) Curriculum Vitae 3) List of three referees with their contact information (letters will be invited) 4) Two most relevant publications and 5) a Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement.
