Title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Biotribocorrosion
The Mechano3biology Lab at UC Merced directed by Dr. Roberto Andresen Eguiluz, is looking for a self-motivated and qualified post-doctoral scholar in Biotribocorrosion. The candidate is expected to use her/his professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to our lab.
The main goals of this position include developing and implementing experimental and modeling approaches aimed at quantifying impacts of tribology and corrosion to wear and degradation of biomaterials in response to biological environments, collaborating with a team of materials engineers and scientists. The candidate is also expected to engage in all aspects of study design and execution, including data acquisition; statistical analysis, modeling and interpretation of results; programming and software development; preparation of manuscripts, report, and proposal; and presentation of findings at conferences and outreach events. Other responsibilities extend to the training of students and staff in the scientific method and specific experimental techniques; preparation of proposals for scientific research funding; and communication and engagement with collaborators globally.
Qualifications: Applicants should have obtained a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field relevant to interfacial science. Experience with force spectroscopy techniques (e.g. SFA, AFM, JKR apparatus), surface characterization techniques (e.g. XPS, FTIR, SEM) and Team Science is required. Evidence of experience in programming (e.g., Python, Matlab, R, C#) is a desired. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct scientific research with strong written and verbal communication skills are encouraged to apply.
