Position description

The Graduate Division anticipates hiring a Statistics Teaching Assistant for Fall 2020.

Under the general direction of the lead instructor, the Statistics Teaching Assistant will assist graduate students in using statistical methods for the purpose of conducting research. Instruction will take the form of individual and group meetings and electronic communication (email, Google Docs or other means of sharing files). Previous Teaching Assistant training by the Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning will be supplemented by training from the lead instructor.

Qualifications:

Training and experience in using statistical analysis that includes standard descriptive statistics (measures of central tendency, dispersion probability distributions, correlation, and graphing all these measures).
Basic frequentist inferential statistics (general linear model, t-test, regression, ANOVA, chi-square).
Some knowledge of probabilistic inference is preferred.
A Bachelor's degree in the subject area or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
Maintenance of a qualifying grade point average (per UC Merced's Graduate Advisor Handbook).
Academically eligible to hold the appointment (per UC Merced's Graduate Advisor Handbook).
Must be a UC Merced graduate student registered in 12 units in the previous term.

Salary is based on an annual full-time salary of $43,823. The Teaching Assistant will not be appointed for more than 50% time during the Fall semester.
