An Associate Specialist position is currently available in Dr. Reza Ehsani’s Intelligent Agricultural Engineering Technologies Lab at the University of California, Merced to participate in developing electronic sensor systems for applications in agriculture. The Associate Specialist will be engaged in different funded research projects related to sensor technology, robotics, and smart machine design for the food and agriculture industries. Job duties include, but not limited to, the design and fabrication of various types of analog and digital electronic circuits for different types of sensors as well as machine control systems. Other assigned tasks include, as needed, maintaining well-documented lab notebooks and helping students and postdocs in Dr. Ehsani’s lab with their projects. The Associate Specialist is also expected to serve as the primary safety supervisor for Dr. Ehsani's lab and make sure the lab complies with UC Merced, state and federal rules and regulations. Additional duties include planning and conducting day-to-day experimental activities relating to assigned research projects as well as contributing to writing scientific manuscripts and project reports. It is also expected that the Associate Specialist utilizes safe laboratory protocols, maintains the lab in clean and high-functioning condition; be proficient in all the experimental and analytical procedures carried out in the lab, stay on the top of future developments and opportunities for the implementation of related new technologies and procedures, and supervise the undergraduate students in the lab.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master degree in electrical engineering or a related area with at least five years of experience. A PhD and prior experience in designing soil and plant sensors for precision agriculture is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: 1) Prior applied experience in designing electronic circuits, 2) Prior experience managing a workshop or laboratory, 3) Prior experience operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, 4) Prior experience supervising technical staff, and 5) Prior experience managing large datasets
