The Department of Public Health at the University of California, Merced (https://publichealth.ucmerced.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position in Public Health. The Department’s mission is to promote and protect health in the San Joaquin Valley and the world through our research and the training of the next generation of public health leaders. We seek a colleague to coordinate and teach courses in Public Health, including core courses such as: Introduction to Public Health, Global and International Public Health, Health Communication, Health Promotion, and Research Methods. Candidates with teaching experience in any substantive public health area are encouraged to apply, but we are particularly interested in applicants that can offer a breadth of courses and demonstrate past teaching effectiveness.
The successful candidate should have a strong record of teaching experience or evidence of the ability to teach public health coursework, particularly using student focused or student-centered approaches; show commitment to advancing professional or research activities (e.g., developing effective and innovative teaching methods for public health, research on pedagogy, learning assessment), and service related to the mission of the Department of Public Health and UC Merced; and demonstrate interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses, may mentor undergraduate students and graduate student instructors, and will also be responsible for coordinating undergraduate curriculum assessment. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, professional activities, and service. The Assistant Teaching Professor title confers the rights and responsibilities of membership in the Academic Senate and has the payroll title Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment (LPSOE). An LPSOE is eligible for promotion to "Security of Employment," which is analogous to tenure.
In order to be considered, candidates must have a doctoral degree in Public Health or a related field by the position start date. Preferred candidates will have at least one year of teaching experience and experience teaching large introductory courses.
The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2021.
