Position description

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is immediately available to work in a collaborative research project on the role of biochar in reducing greenhouse fluxes from dairy operations. The successful candidate will conduct regional techno-economic analysis and econometric modeling in order to quantify the impacts of biochar production and greenhouse gas mitigation on the California economy, and specifically within California’s Central Valley.

In addition to having a demonstrated track record of working with quantitative economic methods, prospective candidates should have experience working on agricultural, biomass processing, and environmental projects, preferably in settings where there has been cross-disciplinary collaboration with environmental scientists and engineers.

The postdoc hired for this position will be expected to work independently and in collaborative teams, develop novel research ideas, deliver presentations, and write research papers in a timely manner. In addition, the postdoc will be able to mentor graduate students and undergraduate students who will work on relevant projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. in agricultural, environmental or related engineering, or applied economics, or have successfully defended their dissertation and be in the final stage of revisions. The ideal candidate will also have earned an undergraduate or graduate degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, or engineering. The preferred candidate will be highly motivated and have experience working with at least one of the following topics: regional economic development, nutrient management, greenhouse gas mitigation.

Salary is based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales. Review of applications will begin immediately. Position is open until filled with a final closing date of June 30, 2020. The position is a full-time, benefits-eligible, 12-month appointment. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
