Position description

The Math Center tutors will serve as learning assistants for MATH 5, 11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 32, as well as some upper division math courses, in an open tutoring center format. Tutors increase math proficiency by assisting students in finding their own answers to questions and helping them learning methods to solve problems independently. Support is structured to reinforce course material, with a focus on grasping the mathematical content of courses and building student capacity to be successful in future math courses.

Tutors are responsible for creating an inclusive learning environment, greeting students and explaining the functions of the Math Center to new students. Staff are responsible for reviewing and understanding the Math Center Handbook, attending pedagogical training events, mentoring new tutors and ensuring compliance with Center procedures.

Deadline: Positions are open until filled with a final closing date of 1/27/20; consideration of applications will be on going. Applications will continue to be received until all positions have been filled.

Salary is based on an hourly rate of $16.75 and is based on the UC academic salary scales.
