The Department of Physics in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of California, Merced (http://physics.ucmerced.edu) in collaboration with Berkeley Quantum (https://berkeleyquantum.org) at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) invites applications for a faculty position to start as early as July 1, 2020 at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. The position is targeted for Experimental Hard Condensed Matter or Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics with an intended focus on the fabrication and characterization of novel materials and structures with applications to quantum information, quantum communication, quantum sensing, quantum metrology, quantum neuromorphic architectures, and/or related areas. We are seeking outstanding candidates who will engage in cross-cutting, interdisciplinary research, and who will complement our existing Physics faculty in terms of research and diversity. The successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the development of innovative interdisciplinary programs and research, and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A joint appointment at UC Merced and LBNL is an intended option, contingent upon alignment of research interests.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or related fields.
