The School of Natural Sciences at University of California, Merced (http://naturalsciences.ucmerced.edu) invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Applied Mathematics (http://appliedmath.ucmerced.edu) starting July 1, 2019. An Assistant Teaching Professor is a tenure-track faculty position with emphasis on undergraduate education. Successful candidate is expected to be actively engaged in the applied mathematics academic program as well as work with the teacher preparation focused CalTeach program (http://calteach.ucmerced.edu).
We are seeking an outstanding educator with expertise in mathematics and mathematics education. The responsibilities of this position involve:
• Teaching applied mathematics courses, with emphasis on lower-division ones;
• Teaching courses in mathematics education and pedagogy for the CalTeach program;
• Engaging in curriculum and program development, pedagogical innovation, and other scholarly activities;
• Training teaching assistants;
• Participating in education-related committees, outreach, and engaging in efforts to secure extramural funding for program development.
Candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching, experience with mentoring teaching assistants and/or other teacher-training programs, and strong writing and interpersonal communication skills will receive favorable considerations.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education or a related field, and have had at least one semester of teaching experience at the college or university level.
