Research in the Wang Lab orients around next-generation multi-functional organic electronics. We pioneer these materials by drawing inspiration from nature, achieving molecular precision through bottom-up synthesis, and constructing desired structure-property relationships via new processing methods such as 3D printing. These exciting organic materials bring new functionalities and enhanced performances for a variety of applications, ranging from wearable electronics to energy storage devices.
The Wang Laboratory directed by Dr. Yue Jessica Wang is looking for a self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic and highly qualified Postdoctoral Scholar expert in polymer synthesis to work on the following two areas of research:
(1) SLA/DLP 3D printing of multi-functional polymers. These photopolymerization-based processes will require a strong working knowledge on small molecule design and orthogonal photopolymerization routes. An interest in exploring areas beyond synthetic chemistry will be a necessary trait in succeeding in this area of research.
(2) Impact adaptive polymers. Custom design and synthesis of a variety of polymers (multi-functional, ionic, conjugated, diblock copolymers, etc.).
The Postdoctoral Scholar is expected to stay abreast of recent publications in the field, carry out the research independently and as part of a team, develop ideas into fully-fledged polymer systems with desired functionality, and publish research articles. The Postdoctoral Scholar is also expected to assist with mentoring graduate students and undergraduate students who will work on the projects, and to be in charge of properly maintaining the equipment in the lab.
Qualifications: Applicants must have obtained a PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science and Engineering, or a related field by the start date of their appointment. The successful candidate must have previous training and established track record in synthetic chemistry, polymers, and chemical and materials characterizations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also required. Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct scientific research successfully and work independently but also collaboratively are desirable.
The candidate must have demonstrable experience in at least two, preferably more, of the following areas: 1) synthetic chemistry for small molecules; 2) polymer chemistry ; 3) photochemistry; 4) some level of understanding of materials characterization (can be through collaboration). An interest and willingness to go beyond synthetic chemistry, and learn materials characterization, devices applications, or even coding and machine building from other group members will be additional traits that are necessary to succeed in our research projects.
