Position description

This is a unique position to assist Associate Chancellor (AC) for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Dania Matos, with building the inaugural Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and listening tour to inform institution-wide strategic priorities in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). It is especially well-suited for graduate or professional students interested in assisting with the development of transformative practitioners in inclusive pedagogy, faculty and staff hiring and retention and other issues In addition, AC Matos is asked to give keynote and other presentations related to her work on equity, diversity, and inclusion at UC Merced. The student will be asked to help the AC with data collection, including listening tour feedback, surveys, research on best practices, and help preparing materials for presentation or trainings. Finally, the student may be asked to assist AC Matos with the implementation of important initiatives related to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Under direction and support of the AC, and under the supervision of a Senate faculty member, provide research and other support for academic research undertaken by the AC and provide research and other support for EDI strategic planning, presentations or trainings.

The GSR will assist with research activities, which will include but is not limited to:
• synthesizing emerging themes from listening tour, drop-ins and other data gathering activities for strategic planning
• benchmarking best practices on EDI at other institutions;

• developing hiring and retention toolkits;
• compiling and analyzing scholarship on EDI initiatives;
• identifying and researching resources, including grant opportunities, related to EDI;
• helping to produce content and updates to the EDI website;
• producing visual materials, such as power point, handouts, for presentations or trainings on equity, diversity and inclusion.

• help with programming on EDI education and development.

The GSR may be responsible for communicating with stakeholders and helping with the planning and facilitation of engagement fora, such as town halls, focus groups, interviews, surveys, and other data gathering activities.
