The University of California, Merced, School of Natural Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. We are broadly seeking candidates in all disciplines of microbiology (bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology) and host-microbe interactions with an emphasis on quantitative and systems approaches. We are also interested in those with expertise in conducting BSL3 research in our new BSL3 facility opening in 2020. Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an independent and creative research program which can be externally funded; develop collaborative interdisciplinary research programs; and display a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The School of Natural Sciences is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.

Qualifications: In order to be considered, candidates must have a PhD in microbiology or a closely related field by the position start date.
