Description

Deadline: Position will remain open until filled; For fullest consideration, complete application materials should be received by October 1st, 2019.

The Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department within the School of Natural Sciences at UC Merced is seeking three new faculty members in synthetic chemistry (and an additional new faculty member in biochemistry/biophysical chemistry, see: https://aprecruit.ucmerced.edu/JPF00872 for other position). Two positions will be at the Assistant Professor level and the other position is open rank. We welcome applicants whose research interests lie in the chemical synthesis of organic, inorganic, organometallic molecules, macromolecules (including biomacromolecules), or materials.

We seek outstanding scholars who will establish/maintain creative research programs, lead an internationally renowned independent research program in an emerging area, teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and advise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Successful applicants will also contribute to the growth of a vibrant chemistry department in a young research university. We strongly encourage applications from experientially and culturally diverse individuals, especially those who desire to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the community through their experiences, mentorship, teaching, scholarship, and service.

Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Materials, Chemical Engineering, or a related area at the time of appointment is required. A record of research excellence and productivity is required. Tenure-track applicants must show promise of the potential to develop and support an independent, innovative research program. Applicants for the tenured position must have a strong track record in leading an excellent, extramurally-funded research program. Applicants should also demonstrate commitment to teach and train effectively at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Interested applicants should submit (1) a cover letter briefly describing their research expertise and why they feel UC Merced would be a good fit, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) research statement, (4) teaching statement, and (5) diversity, equity, and inclusion statement. Please see below for additional requirements.

Applicants for the Assistant Professor level should arrange to have three letters of reference submitted online. After an application is submitted, the letters of reference should be electronically uploaded by the letter writers (instructions will be provided by the application system). Letters of reference should be received no later than October 1st, 2019.

Applicants for the Associate/Full Professor level should include a list of three references with their applications; letters of reference are not required at this time. Once the search committee has determined the short list of candidates, the search committee chair will request letters of recommendation at that time.
