Position description

The Vision and Learning Laboratory at UC Merced directed by Dr. Ming-Hsuan Yang, is looking for a self-motivated and qualified Junior Specialist in Computer Science Engineering to be engaged in projects related to object detection and segmentation.

The candidate is expected to use his/her professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions to our lab. The main goals include developing the state-of-the-art algorithms for object detection and segmentation. Computer vision and deep learning skills and previous experience on drone operations are necessary for the project. The candidate is expected to perform field work in computer vision for data collection, carry out research independently, implement and develop research ideas, oversee the students in the group, and prepare reports and/or articles on the research progress.

Qualifications: Applicants must have obtained a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Experience working in computer vision and deep learning including knowledge of data collection, experimental design, and communication skills with growers are required. Highly self-motivated individuals who have demonstrated the ability to conduct independent scientific research with leadership skills and strong written and verbal communication skills are encouraged to apply.

Salary is based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales. Review of applications will begin on October 28, 2019. Position will be opened until filled. This is a part-time 6-month appointment, with the possibility of extension based on availability of funding, ongoing operational needs and satisfactory performance.
