Assistant Professor of Biological Anthropology

The Department of Anthropology and Heritage Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in biological anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a broadly trained biological anthropologist with a research specialization in past human populations and a preferred methodological expertise in laboratory techniques including isotopic analyses, paleogenomics, trace elements, or bone histology, and a strong grounding in quantitative methods. The position is broadly conceived to stress the use of modern scientific methodologies for studying human remains with a research agenda focused on important anthropological issues, including questions of gender, health, nutrition, migration, and mobility.

The successful candidate will complement and enhance existing strengths in the Anthropology and Heritage Studies Department; be active in field or laboratory research; and be willing to work to support and/or establish vigorous teaching and research programs involving undergraduates and interdisciplinary graduate students. We seek a candidate with a strong record of publication and demonstrable interest in obtaining external funding who will establish and maintain strong research programs, participate actively in the development of innovative interdisciplinary programs and research, and teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We expect this individual to contribute to the teaching of biological anthropology courses within the Anthropology undergraduate curriculum as well as participate in graduate teaching as appropriate. This includes introductory Biological Anthropology and quantitative analyses, and upper division elective courses including those emphasizing the candidate’s research interests and methodological skills. We are also interested in scholars whose work intersects with heritage studies, broadly defined.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a PhD in anthropology or a closely related field by the position start date.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2020.
