UC Merced’s Blackstone LaunchPad program will introduce students to entrepreneurship with an emphasis on the importance of understanding customers and understanding entrepreneurship as a team activity that arises from the coordination of diverse skills.

The Program Director will work under the general direction of the faculty director of the Blackstone program, leading the development and implementation of research-related activities, programmatic initiatives, fundraising and managing certain operational processes and programs for the Blackstone program in cooperation with campus stakeholder and the School of Engineering.

Primary duties of the position include administration of Program activities through (a) Student engagement; (b) Institutional engagement; (c) Event planning; and (d) Management of and reporting on program activities. Key tasks of the Program Director include organizing existing campus entrepreneurship resources to establish cooperative UC Merced Blackstone Enterprise programming, with the goal of integrating Blackstone LaunchPad resources with existing resources to enhance the campus’ ability to help students develop entrepreneurial skills. The Program Director will be responsible for regular events to raise the profile of the program and of entrepreneurship among students at UC Merced. The Director will also work with local investors, the members of the UC Merced Board of Trustees Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Working Group, the UC Merced Venture Lab, mentors in the UC Central Valley Mentoring Network, and other stakeholders in the community to create an annual awards program or competition to showcase entrepreneurs and their innovations.

Qualifications: Candidates must have obtained a Master’s degree in business, communications, psychology or related discipline and have 3-5 years of relevant professional work experience. A Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, psychology or related discipline and have 5-7 years of relevant professional work experience will also be considered. Candidates should also have excellent interpersonal skills and be capable of having in-depth conversations with students, faculty and community stakeholders. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate leadership and networking skills and be capable of professionally relating to others who are part of the campus entrepreneurial ecosystem. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate communication and branding skills, know how to execute omnichannel marketing promotions, and can build awareness for cross-cutting programs. The ability to coordinate across multiple units and members to build bridges across organizational silos to increase UC Merced student engagement in entrepreneurship is also desired.

Salary is negotiated based on the University of California Academic Salary Scales. Review of applications will begin immediately. The position is open until filled with a final closing date extended to August 31, 2019.
