The Professional Researcher Program at UC Merced supports young applied mathematics researchers and educators. The purpose of this program is to provide training in research and scientific communication to strong candidates in preparation for careers in academia, industry, and government. The PRs are expected to contribute to the Applied Mathematics Department by conducting research. In addition, PRs are highly encouraged to participate in the Applied Mathematics Department’s activities such as seminars, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, proposal writing and informal events.

The Department of Applied Mathematics at UC Merced invites applications for an Assistant Professional Researcher position for AY 2019-2020. This (renewable) non-tenure track position requires the successful candidate to conduct research in collaboration with at least one faculty member in the Department of Applied Mathematics. Moreover, potential opportunities of teaching may be available if the need arises.

A Ph.D. or equivalent in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics or a related field is required by the time of hire. Preference will be given to candidates at the early stage of their careers. We are seeking exceptionally qualified candidates with expertise in areas across the field of applied mathematics. Special attention will be paid to applicants who can collaborate with researchers in applied mathematics and other fields in natural sciences, engineering and/or social sciences at UC Merced.
