Position description

UC Merced is also building the Downtown Campus Center, a $33 million, three-story administrative building in the heart of Merced.

The School of Engineering anticipates hiring full and part-time Lecturers to teach courses in the following disciplines in Summer 2018 and the 2018-2019 Academic Year (Fall 2018, Spring 2019):

Bioengineering
Computer Science and Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Materials Science and Engineering
Mechanical Engineering

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours, and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant.

Qualifications:
A record of teaching excellence that demonstrates broad experience working with students of different abilities, ethnic backgrounds, and educational attainment; a record of scholarly achievement pertinent to teaching of Engineering classes preferred. PhD and/or Masters and experience teaching at the college or university level are required.

Interested applicants are required to submit 1) a cover letter 2) curriculum vitae 3) Statement of experience - A teaching statement of no more than 500 words explaining how you have approached or would approach teaching the courses that you wish to teach. Please also indicate subject areas of interest regarding teaching.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Salary is based on an annual full time rate of $53,402.00.
